It has ended up being about 43″ square.
I recut the squares down to 12″ before sewing them together, and used 2 1/2″ strips for the sashing.
The idea behind this heart quilt free pattern was to demonstrate all the different ways that our Carols Quilts Heart Template Set can be used.
This pattern is now being included in the Heart Template Sets.
Very simple but very effective!
Hearts are always a useful addition to the quilters toolkit. The Heart Quilt Template set includes a set of 8″, 6″, 4″ and 2″ full heart shapes. All with crosshairs (lines both vertical and horizontal) which allow you to easily centre the heart in a block. You fold your block fabric in half, press a crease, fold again and press another crease. You use these pressed creases to align with the crosshairs on the template.
The set is designed to work within each other, as shown by the picture of hearts nested together and made using raw edge applique. Very effective.
